Monday morning:
We were locked out this morning, standing outside in the snowy weather, and service started half an hour late as a result. I began shaharith in the hall, using a Siddur on Lawrence's phone.

Service proper started after Silvano was called and arrived with the keys to open up, as Fernando could only get us as far as the hall, (at least getting us out of the snow) and Rafi did not know the code for the alarms. The synagogue manager was out, as he was dealing with the delivery for the seder meal.
Zemirot and Shaharith: Evan der Millner
Attendance: lk, Silvano Stagni, David Behr, Stephen Richter, Paul Ashton, Evan der Millner, John Sloggem
Siyyum for the Fast of the First Born: Masechet Yoma (Evan der Millner)
Breakfast was odd, as matzot were put out, but of course no-one would touch them today. So in the absence of other comestibles, we resorted to cheese, jam and coffee.

Gazette: Shabbat Vayikra at Bevis Marks

Come to our Minyan, and visit a grade I listed building, without paying the museum entry fee.

Friday night, unfortunately we did not manage to muster a minyan, as many of our local regulars were away for the holidays, and we had no visitors. After the synagogue service, we retired to the synagogue hall, and had a light supper, and sat and talked for 45 minutes or so after the service.

Shabbat morning the synagogue was attended by  24 gentlemen and 10 ladies - our largest attendance for some time. The synagogue service felt lively, and the choir was in good form.
Unlike the usual Shabbat morning service at Bevis Marks,  over half the congregation was made up of young people.

Sephardim around Middlesex Street

I did the 'Middlesex Street Round' again this afternoon, reminding the Jewish shopkeepers ( of whom there are a couple of dozen) of the times of our Shaharith services. I found a shop on Bell Lane with a mezuzah that I hadn't seen before. Many of the fabric and textile shops in the district are owned by Sephardi and Adeni Jews.

Looking down Wentworth Street, with Petticoat Lane in the foreground.
