The musical tradition of Sandy's Row

The Dutch musical tradition was very rich before the war - after the war there was a complete collapse, and the traditions are now being researched and re-established. Here in the UK the German/ Western Ashkenazic tradition remained alive - with many chazzanim coming to London from the Netherlands to the 'Great Shool' on Dukes Place, or to the smaller Dutch shools. Some Dutch communities in Holland were particularly renowned for their melodies and hazzanus. The original musics tradition of the British United Synagogue also is in essence Western Ashkenazic, being drawn in the main part from Germany and Holland.

The Ashkenazic community in Amsterdam re-established its choir, singing mainly German music ( The base minhag of Dutch Jewry was Germanic) in addition to some Dutch traditional melodies.
